shines as one of the jewels of New York’s restaurant scene.

If the prospect of finding hidden treasure excites you, print out a subway map and mark an X over 227 Sullivan between Bleecker and West 3rd. When you arrive, look for the logo of a bovine resting in lotus pose on the door. You’ll know you’ve found the Sacred Chow.

Inside, there is a smattering of chess and chinese checker board tables with black Spanish chairs, and a mosaic tile fountain. The walls boast stylish local art and dim lighting to complete the romantic ambiance. Tucked away in the West Village, this cozy restaurant bills itself as 100% Hardcore: 100% Eco-Vegan, 100% Ethically Kosher, 100% Low Carbon Code, 100% Heart Healing. Serving breakfast, lunch, dinner, and brunch on weekends, nourishing the body and soul, and feeling hardcore like Sacred Chow, becomes a breeze. Sacred Chow even has a daily beer special from 11:00 am-7:00 pm, you can get any draft beer and three tapas for $15.00. Also, Sacred Chow carries a delicious selection of red and white wines, all kosher, vegan and sustainable.

The Tapas are divided into two categories: Protein Rich Plates and Complex Carb Plates. For an elegant protein fix, try the roasted black olive seitan. Flavorful bets from the carb category include the root vegetable latkes or the sautéed shiitake mushrooms with toasted sunflower seeds. But there’s no pressure to choose only one, as three tapas are only $15.00, plus there's a choice of daily specials.

For more of a main course, look for their succulent Heroes at $10.00, served on six inch toasted French baguettes with a side of peanut slaw, and house-made spicy pickles. One of the most tantalizing subs is the orange barbecued seitan that is sliced chunky with an orange-molasses, roasted ginger and garlic sauce, topped with fiery pan-seared onions.

Begin your meal with one of their frozen smoothies, with a mixer of either soymilk or apple juice, like the Gym Body or Very Berry. (Ricemilk is available too!) End your meal with a perfect Latte or Cappuccino and with a sweet morsel from their list of Desserts like the Sinner Bar. With coconut caramel dipped in chocolate, this decadent delicacy is rightly named, because it will make you blush.

Between the considerate staff, comfortable atmosphere, and an excitingly guilt-free fare with lots of gluten-free choices, Sacred Chow is an oasis that has true potential for global growth. Already a favorite stop for many, Sacred Chow shines as one of the jewels of New York’s restaurant scene.
